West Side Middle School Nurse:
The health room is open each day from 8 AM until 2:45 PM. Students coming to the nurse must bring their agenda books so we can sign the passport section. This record keeping procedure will track how many times a student visits and assure staff that the students are where they should be.
Each fall, students in grade 6 will have their vision tested, referrals will be mailed home to parents who child failed the screening. Students in grade 8 will have their hearing tested; again, parents will be notified by mail if their child fails the screening. Scoliosis or curvature of the spine is screened on all students with the exception of those students whose parents/guardians contact the nurse to decline the screening, or have already received it in a recent exam.
Students who are signed up may go to the School Based Health Clinic but must always begin in the health room where a referral note will be sent to the Nurse Practitioner.
Students with any medication at school must have a new order each year. The health room is able to provide Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen to students whose parents/guardians have filled out the appropriate form available in the health room.
