This year we continue to use annual SBAC testing and will be adding interim SBAC assessment as well. This data, along curriculum data will be used to guide instruction to meet the needs of all students. Call or stop in any time to ask me more about these assessments and how we use them!
After a successful year with “The Math Masters Program” last year, PV will continue the program for students in grades 3-5. The goal of the program is to increase fact fluency in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Students have an opportunity to earn certificates and recognition as they master each level. Students will be acknowledged in front of their peers and family with a special ceremony each month to celebrate their success.
At Pleasant Valley, we are excited to be implementing the Spatial-Temporal (ST) Math this year. ST Math is game-based instructional software designed to boost math comprehension and proficiency through visual learning. At PV, we will be integrating the program into classroom instruction. ST Math incorporates the latest research in learning and the brain and promotes mastery-based learning and mathematical understanding. Our teachers are looking forward to participating in training using the ST Math software games, which are interactive with graphically-rich animations that visually represent mathematical concepts to improve conceptual understanding and problem-solving skills in our students. ST Math can be projected onto our interactive whiteboards to help students make connections between the visual representations from ST Math and symbolic representations in their Math Expressions instruction.
We’re off to a wonderful start to the school year! I am thrilled to “Celebrate the Joy of Learning” with all the amazing students at PV.
