If you are new to Groton and haven't met me yet my name is Miranda, and I am the School Liaison Officer for the Naval Submarine Base New London.

The Navy School Liaison Program helps ensure local school districts are aware of the stressors on military families brought about by frequent transitions and extended deployments.

My goal is to help military families have the resources and support necessary to become the best educational advocate they can for their children.  I can help to provide information, make referrals, and educate families on issues related to school transition, deployment impact, and youth education.

Moving is a fact of life when you are a member of a military family but  military students and their parents experience multiple challenges as they transition to a new location and school and I want to help ease the school transition.  It is said that military families move their children an average of every 2.9 years and that children of military personnel may attend up to 9 different schools by graduation.  That is a lot of transition!

pvThis summer I had the chance to go to the Military Child Education Coalition Conference with a group of Groton Public School administrators and teachers including Mrs. Miner, Pleasant Valleys principal.  It was a great experience and an opportunity that we hope benefits our military kids!  I look forward to continuing to work together with parents and educators to enhance the academic experience for  Grotons military students.
