Dear PV Families.

You may have noticed some dolphins and exercises on a piece of paper in your students backpack.

PV students were given homework for PE.  At the end of PE class I handed out a paper which asked if they could do daily 20 minutes of activity (walk, ride a bike, jog, etc.), 20 pushups, 20 curl ups and stretches.  Students should have parents sign the paper and return it to the next PE day!  Students’ names will be put on a dolphin on our Join Our School bulletin board in the gym.  Many students are joining the school of dolphins.

There is evidence that physical activity may help improve academic achievement (such as grades and standardized test scores) and factors that can positively influence academic achievement (such as concentration, attention, and improved classroom behavior).   So let’s get moving!   Many students are joining the school of dolphins!

The CT Fitness Assessment  for 4th grade will begin September 19th  and end November 11th. The testing is done during PE class.   Way to go!!!!

Encourage your child to get 60 minutes of physical activity every day.  Together we can create healthier children.
Get out and play!

pv  The New Year often brings with it many resolutions to get healthy and fit. A well-balanced diet is a great place to start. Try each day to eat at least three meals and one to two healthy snacks each day. Eating healthy doesn’t mean not eating your favorite foods. Practice moderation and make physical activity a regular part of your day. Check out www.myplate.gov for some additional healthy eating tips.

Set the standard for your whole family and make fun family physical activity a regular part of your day.  Choose activities the whole family can do together such as bike riding, swimming, Frisbee, yoga, basketball, rock climbing, walking, hiking and soccer; all of which have a positive impact on the five components of health-related physical fitness listed below:

1. Cardiovascular Endurance

2. Muscular Strength

3. Muscular Endurance

4. Flexibility

5. Body Composition

The National Association for Sport and Physical Education recommends that children participate in at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day, while the CDC recommends adults participate in at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day.  Participating in regular physical activity and demonstrating healthy eating habits will help you and your family build and maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.
