• Welcome to 1st Grade 2012-2013

    by K. Young

Hello! I am your child's first grade teacher.  I am VERY excited about the upcoming 2012-2013 school year.  I am looking forward to getting to know you and your child.  I think it is very important for us  to form an ongoing partnership and to work very closely together in a way that will benefit your child in every way! There are a few important things you need to know about your child's day:

Snack: Please sent in a healthy snack and drink for your child every day.

Lunch: The cost for lunch is $2.35 a for hot school lunch, super sack (Sandwich lunch) or a salad.  Lunch money is collected on Fridays. Please be sure to send your payment in an envelop with your child's name on it. If your child comes to school with a snack or a lunch please be sure his/her name is written on the lunch box.  Click on the link to see the lunch calendar. http://www.groton.k12.ct.us/site/Default.aspx?PageID=225

Supplies:  All supplies will be provided by the school district, however, I strongly recommend that your child has a regular sized back pack every day.  (We will have lockers to put all of things in this year! Cool!!)  It is very important that you check your child's backpack everyday for notes, library books to read, homework folders & important papers especially in the first few months of school. Please be sure your child's name is written on the backpack and coats as there are often several students with the same backpack.
Homework: Homework will be sent home in a plastic velcro folders.  When we begin the year, your child's homework folder will come home with a letter in it for you.  Please check the folder EVERY night and return it to school the next day.  Homework for the beginning of the year is to read with your child each night.
Dismissal: Dismissal is from the main entrance of the school near the front office.  Any other time, children must be dismissed through the office.  Please send in a note of your child being dismissal early in their parent communication folder.
Volunteering:  I would love to have parent volunteers in the classroom. Please notify me if you are available and what day & time work best for you. We will work something out.  If you arranged to come into the classroom to volunteer, you must sign into the office & wear a visitor badge.
If you have any questions or concerns. please feel free to contact me. The school phone number is 860-449-5612 ext. 1429. My email address is kyoung@groton.k12.ct.us
I am so excited to be working with both you & your child this year!
    Hugs & Resepct,
    Mrs. Karen Young
